While analytical philosophers of education have largely disregarded Lyotard, others have linked his work to “education as liberatory discourse.” Against these inadequate responses, Lyotard: just education fills an important gap in the existing literature on Lyotard in general. The authors argue that Lyotard, following Wittgenstein and broader currents in the Western tradition, did not make a distinction between philosophy and the philosophy of education. Contributors to this volume come from a wide range of disciplines: education, French and philosophy; and each chapter extends the scholarship on Lyotard in relation to education, underlining the importance of his work to a wider academic audience. Paul Standish is a lecturer in the philosophy of education at the University of Dundee. His books include Beyond the Self: Wittgenstein, Heidegger and the Limits of Language, and Thinking Again: Education after Postmodernism, which he co-authored.
